Internet speed basics
The speed of data, as it travels from the Internet to your computer, is measured in megabits per second (Mbps). Different activities require different speeds.
DOWNLOAD (Mbps)
Download speed refers to the rate that data is transferred from the Internet to your computer, like downloading a video from email.
PING (ms)
Ping is the reaction time of your connection, or how fast you get a response after you've sent out a request. A fast ping is necessary for multiplayer video games.
UPLOAD (Mbps)
Upload speed is the rate that data is transferred from your computer to the Internet, like posting a picture to social media.
